Chinese Performing Art Festival at Colombo

A special cultural event was held at Nelum Pokuna Performng Arts Theatre to celebrate the Chinese Lunar New Year and Sri Lanka's Independence Day recently.

The event was organized by the embassy of the People's Republic of China in Sri Lanka in collaboration with Chinese companies, Confucius institute, Sri Lanka, overseas Chinese Association and China–Sri Lanka friendship organizations.  Economic Development Minister Basil Rajapaksa was the chief guest at this festive celebration.

Wu Jianghao, Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in Sri Lanka, and Three Forces Commanders graced the celebration.

Millions of people celebrate Lunar New Year, also known as Chinese New Year, the most important annual holiday in much of Asia. In China, an estimated 200 million people have traveled to be with their families in what is considered the biggest mass human migration on Earth. Sunday (10) marked the first day of the Chinese Lunar New Year.
